Kornati

Croatia This group of 147 islands of exceptional beauty is famous for the fascinating national park and the great waterfalls of river Krka, but also for vivid night life in the city of Vodice. The Croatian Kornati archipelago is located in central Dalmatia, south of Zadar. With 150 islands in a sea area of about 320 km2 Kornati are the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea (Skračic, 2003). The southern part of the archipelago, which roughly corresponds to the part of the archipelago called Donji Kurnat (Lower Kurnat) was declared a national park in 1980. There are no permanent settlements in Kornati. Simple houses in well-protected coves such as Vruje, Kravjačica, Lavsa and others are used by land owners as temporary shelters. Most of the land owners are from the island of Murter.

Korčula

Croatia The island of Korčula belongs to the central Dalmatian archipelago, separated from the Pelješac peninsula by a narrow strait of Pelješac, between 900 and 3,000 meters wide (illustration, right). It is the sixth largest Adriatic island with a rather indented coast. The highest peaks are Klupca (568 m) and Kom (510 m). The climate is mild; an average air temperature in January is 9.8 °C and in July 26.9 °C; the average annual rainfall is 1,100 mm. The island is largely covered with the Mediterranean flora; at some places are pine forests. The old town of Korčula is a genuine example of Croatian soul: unique architecture, surrounding villages with specific local customs, splendid vineyards and vine cellars with Dalmatian wines, known since ancient times and produced from autochthonous varieties of grapes. Korčula is also famous for being the birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous XIIIth century world globetrotter.

Island of Vis

Croatia This island, dating from 4th century, is a very interesting location for diving thanks to the famous natural phenomena of Biševo (Blue Cave) and vast sandy beaches. Another interesting place on the island is a small town of Komiža, originating from the old fishermen settlement. There are two towns and municipalities on the island. Inside of the island there are smaller settlements: Podselje, Marinje zemlje, Podšpilje, Podstražje.
